Le Simplegadi is a refereed journal which began publication in 2003. The journal seeks to disseminate research in modern languages and literatures.

- Le Simplegadi is a fully refereed journal with a scientific and editorial board of scholars in various fields of modern languages and literatures. The publication is open to innovative contributions which can promote “equalitarian” and collaborative principles and practices towards individuals, societies, literatures and cultures from a multiplicity of points of view (”hybridisation” of languages and literatures, migrant writing, intercultural and transcultural identities and subjectivities, post-colonial studies, subaltern studies, and related areas). The main aim is to foster critical resistance towards hegemonic and hierarchical models of culture, and positively promote, as viable alternatives, discourse practices of partnership and mutuality.
- Le Simplegadi is published exclusively online once a year on 30th November. The journal is free and its whole issues or single contributions can be downloaded without payment. The journal seeks to reach a broad audience worldwide and welcomes contributions in a variety of languages.
- All contributions published are peer reviewed by anonymous referees who experts in the specific field of study. Authors are requested to read carefully the notes for contributors and submit contributions that have not been published before either online or as hard copy.
- Le Simplegadi is being reviewed for inclusion into citation indexes.

LE SIMPLEGADI or Cianee Islands clash, in the myth, and obstruct the passage towards “the Other Place”.
The Erring Rocks, or Dancing Islands are mythical forms of that prodigious passage beyond which there is the Island of the Blessed. In India, the notion of “Sailing Islands” represents the “worlds” or the different “states of being”: on a sailing island, surrounded by the Ocean, all possible “manifestations” intertwine. It is an active Gate linking Sky and Earth which, originally, were one single entity. Any pair of opposites repeats the perilous passage that the Hero-Artist goes through in perfect equanimity, superior to any possible alternative. The apparent antitheses, such as “north-southness” cannot be absolute values, but only logical extremes of a “divided” form, a threshold to cross without being devoured or overwhelmed; these pairs are the threads in the cobweb the universe consists of.
LE SIMPLEGADI, specialistic on-line journal published on the web-site of ALL, aims at reflecting on the “future” (and the present) of the languages and literatures in the era of globalisation, when the “north-world” and the “south-world” are apparent extremes of the threshold to cross in order to recompose the unique fabric of existence.
In ancient times and for “traditional” cultures poets, bards, are members of a privileged “order” within the learned class, like Brahmins in India. In Ireland their profession was hereditary, and their apprenticeship hard and difficult; druids and erudite poets (Filidh), were also judges, they had priestly functions, such as divination and prophecy, and in this they were similar to Siberian shamans, when they lead their audience in “Another” world. For the Australian Aborigines life is embroidery of songs and stories (Songlines), where individual, historical and mythic experiences are constantly interwoven with their Dreamtime.
There was magic in tales, once upon a time!
So we hope that the easy access to information, apparently characterising our world, can become a way to weave a network of plots, a thick interlacing of stories, tales, poems, legends and myths another kind of “WEB“…
Weaving has always been considered a “feminine” activity, indeed, the female spider creates the world from her own bowels, and the Parcae are spinners intertwining destinies. In the Islamic tradition, the loom represents the structure of the universe and its constant movement. In North Africa the humblest housewife possesses a loom composed by four wood pieces, symbols of the whole universe. The Moon interlaces our destinies; many Goddesses hold spindles and distaffs in their hands and govern the unravelling of Life’s yarn, while weaving they create new forms, “predestining” (on the anthropological plane) and “harmonising” (on the cosmological plane). In the multifarious tapestry of the cosmos, spinners and weavers open and close cycles.
