POETRY | Jahman Anikulapo

Jahman Oladejo Anikulapo

studied Theatre Arts with speciality in Directing, Dramatic Theories and Criticisms at the University of Ibadan.
He has been a Culture Journalist for over two decades. He is currently the Editor of The Guardian on Sunday.
He also operates as a Culture Activist and Programmist with imput into some notable ideas and projects (private and public) that have helped define the character as well as shape the development of Nigeria's Arts and Culture scene.
Having spent part of his growing years with his grandmother, who was a priestess of one of the deities (Obatala aka Adanitan) of the Yoruba people, Jahman
has always shown great interest in the translation of the performances in the shrine to the theatrical stage.
In his theatre career, he has been part of processes that ensure the inclusion of the Live Poetry materials in the general body of a theatre piece. He has helped to midwife many projects that encourage the flowering of the form.
Early last year he launched the Culture Advocates Caucus, CAC, which has central to its vision the facilitation of a platform for the professionalisaton of the Live Word performances and the Spoken Word.
The first project in the series of many that will soon be birthed is the WordSlam, which is a quarterly big-stage sort of presentation of Poetry and the Word live on stage.
