The Edinburgh Gadda Projects
The Edinburgh Gadda Prize is powered by the Edinburgh Gadda Projects. Founded in 2000 to celebrate the Italian Modernist Carlo Emilio Gadda, the Projects have since grown into a formidable network making Edinburgh the premier centre for the promotion of Gadda Studies worldwide.
Building on the Projects’ success, the Edinburgh Gadda Prize provides an international platform to recognise scholarly brilliance in Contemporary Italian Studies while also promoting young creative talent. This is achieved through a combination of scholarly and community projects.
The First Five Editions
The Edinburgh Gadda Prize was established in 2010 to mark the Decennial of the Edinburgh Journal of Gadda Studies. To date, editions have alternated between Edinburgh International (Edinburgh 2010, Edinburgh 2012, Edinburgh 2019) and Gadda Giovani (Milan 2011, Montecassino 2013), with the fifth edition, Harvard 2015, held in the US as a special early career award sponsored by Tony Crolla and the Vittoria Group Edinburgh.
The Prizes
Edinburgh International is an award in several Established and Early Career Scholars categories. Gadda Giovani is a national award open to Junior Citizens, and has so far taken place primarily but not exclusively in Italy, with pilots in Scotland, in 2010, and international young people mobility programmes in Scotland and in Italy in 2012 and 2013.
