«Io sono un Bardo»
In Memory of Francesco Benozzo, Poet, Philologist, Bard.
Presentation of the volume «Io sono un Bardo» (Forum Publishing House), held on July 1st in the magnificent setting of the Garden of Palazzo Antonini in Udine. Four years earlier, at the same location, Francesco Benozzo received the “Poeti dalla Frontiera” Award from Professor Antonella Riem.
The following speakers offered moving tributes to the poet and bard: Antonella Riem, Andrea Fassò, Luigi Contadini, Gabriele Sorice, Mattia Mantellato, and John Strachan, accompanied by music from the Mancuso Brothers and the Ciocaia Trio.
The event was made possible in part by a contribution from Banca 360.
Francesco Benozzo, Professor of Romance Philology at the University of Bologna, passed away suddenly in March 2025. He was an internationally renowned poet, harpist and singer, linguist and anthropologist. His work centred on the intense and widespread exploration of places – his beloved Apennines, but also Wales, Galicia, the Lake District and the Faroe Islands – from a cartographic and libertarian perspective.

Starting from Friday, February 21, 2025, the new project ALL 2025 – Itineraries of Beauty through Poetry, Song, and Art (Winner of the Regional Call for the Dissemination of Humanistic Culture of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region) will begin.
The project aims to allow participants to experience the many ways in which poetry and the arts can bring well-being to people, including those who are vulnerable or differently abled. It seeks to develop a new language that transforms social barriers, metaphors, and identity constructs into inclusive forms and expressions. Through innovative forms of creative expression, the project aspires to foster a sense of shared participation, peace among peoples, and a feeling of belonging to a world envisioned as a shared space. This vision will be conveyed through a multi-community perspective, also expressed in multimedia formats and through new digital technologies.

è con profondo dolore che la nostra associazione Laureati in Lingue si vede costretta ad annullare l’evento “Storie di grandi alberi. Sylvatica – Canti sciamanici erranti” previsto per questa domenica 30 marzo a Malborghetto, a causa dell’improvvisa e tragica scomparsa del Prof. Francesco Benozzo, poeta, cantore, musicista e bardo, filologo.
ALL desidera unirsi al dolore della famiglia ed è già al lavoro per rendere il dovuto omaggio al grande “Poeta dalla Frontiera”, con il quale ALL ha avuto l’onore di collaborare per molti anni, nella certezza di mantenere vivo il suo ricordo e la sua opera per sempre.
Qui vogliamo ricordarlo con una sua emozionante poesia, un canto dell’anima, dove la profonda meditazione sull’esilio sia fisico che esistenziale mette in luce le tensioni tra individualismo e conformismo, libertà e prigionia, vita e morte.

Più del mistero inseguo ciò che c’è
Più della morte stessa mi uccide il suo cliché
Sempre ho cercato visioni dei ghiacciai
Ma i luoghi dei miei simili non li ho cercati mai
Rituali si susseguono nei nuovi branchi umani
Io sono sempre stato in posti più lontani
Non potrò mai riconciliarmi o fingere di essere simile a voi
Non potrò mai credere in ciò che non è anomalia
Per poi non respirare più
Da sempre sopravvivo come in cattività
Sarò pure un fanatico ma della libertà

Se ciò che io detesto non lo rimpiangerò
Più del mistero inseguo ciò che c’è
Più della morte stessa mi uccide il tuo cliché

Nel 2022, il Comitato del Partnership Studies Group (USA, Australia, UK, Francia, e Italia), presieduto dalla Prof.ssa Riem, ha assegnato il premio “Poeti dalla frontiera” al Prof. Francesco Benozzo.
